How do we go on living when physical and emotional pain block our path forward? Marble Me Free is an evocative animated journey through a "dark night of the soul," exploring resilience, healing, and the power of creative expression.
Narrated by Starlit Swan, author of the featured poem "The Marble Block," the film draws from her experience living with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)—a severely debilitating condition often referred to as the "suicide disease."
The project began when Starlit attended an online Arts & Healing Resiliency Center workshop sponsored by Dr. Kaufman and facilitated by John Fox of the Institute for Poetic Medicine. A few days later, Starlit and Dr Kaufman met again. When Dr. Kaufman asked how Starlit coped with such overwhelming pain, Starlit shared "The Marble Block." Inspired by the poem's transformative power, Dr. Kaufman envisioned it as a healing animation and invited animator Lucía Martínez Rojas to bring the vision to life—giving birth to Marble Me Free.
